Music is the universal language. My partner, Alex, and I used music and music language theory to develop lessons and teaching ideas for language lessons. For example, we taught Happy Birthday in French emphasizing vocabulary acquisition and memorization of key phrases as well as correct and useful pronunciation rules. We found that using music to teach a target language made learning more fun. We also found that music made teaching fun as we had to sing and smile and enjoy the process of language acquisition.
Having learned English, I was worried about teaching another language–French! However, after learning ESL theory and strategies, I find teaching language interesting and full of inspiration.
